Smithsonian UAV Kiosk

The museum environment is ever changing and constantly adapting to an ever expanding wealth of human knowledge, and with that come the utilization of motion graphics and UI/UX design to display complex themes to users.

Education first

When designing for complex subjects, especially when educating, it’s important to take care not to lose your audience. Nothing’s more frustrating when trying to learn than becoming confused. For this informational kiosk on the history and application of UAV(Unmanned Aerial Vehicle), color coded navigation techniques were used to ensure that as a patron navigated the device they would always know where they were in the app, and how to get where they wanted to go.

A wide audience

With a museum environment it’s difficult to know who exactly your audience will be. Exhibit themes and tones can set the pace for whether it’s more likely that an adult or child will interact with your design, but it is in the end open ended, so having something for everyone is important. Visual interesting imagery and informative language work hand in hand to provide value to the viewer no matter what they’re looking for, guaranteeing they don’t feel like they wasted their time.
